California Chamber Orchestra
THU, MAY 22, 2008, 7:30 PM
Tickets: $30/$25/$12.50/$2.50 child with adult
Presenting the third annual incorporation of music and art, the California
Chamber Orchestra once again collaborates with a local elementary school and its art students as they express their artistic response to selected music. The program will include the rhythmic and angular Concerto in D for strings by Igor Stravinsky, and the dramatic, almost theatrical Sinfonia No.12 for strings by Felix Mendelssohn. Additionally, two trombone concertos are featured: Albrechtsberger, one of Beethoven’s composition teachers, wrote a masterful concerto for Trombone, and the Swedish composer of the 20th century Lars-Erik Larsson’s composed twelve pieces for solo instruments – we will hear his Concertino for Trombone and Strings.
Program: Mendelssohn - Sinfonia No. 2 in D major
Albrechtsberger - Concerto for Trombone in B flat major
Larsson - Concertino for Trombone and Strings Op. 45 No. 7
Mendelssohn - Sinfonia No. 12 in G minor
Soloist – Toby Oft, trombone
